RIP Stage6
Stage6 will shut down tomorrow. DivX Inc. began it purely as a side project to show off their technical skills, and grew to be a successful video community mainly because of the high-speed and high-quality videos. It became so successful that the operational costs became too much for the company to handle and couldn't find a company to sell to. Their last resort is to shut down the site. It is my favourite type of streaming video; I never had to wait for it to download and there were never any pixelations as there are with streaming flash videos. Stage6 will be sorely missed. All I hope for is the next generation of divx encoded streaming videos for the online community; I can't wait to see what programmers do next.
In other news, I got a job. Finally. Nothing exciting. I'm a cashier at a local grocery/drug store. Monday was my first day on the job. I spent 5 hours training. It was the slowest 5 hours of my life. If time went by that slowly, I'm not sure I can handle doing it 8 hours every night for 6 months. But it is only 6 months, and it's a job. I shouldn't complain so much. My supervisors are laidback and nice; my co-workers are friendly. I'm just overwhelmed at all the procedures I have to learn before I fully immerse myself into being a cashier. I'll get through it though. I have two more training sessions before working full-time, Mondays to Fridays. Having weekends off will be sweet. It'll be the first time I'll be working regular hours. I like the steadiness sometimes; I just hope that I don't get bored too quickly.
