Pee Oh
Work is pissing me off lately. It didn't before. Not this much anyway. It's mostly my boss. It's pissing me off so much that it's on my mind and I can't sleep. Fucking hell.
The first time was when I received the first paycheck. Money is usually an issue in a lot of jobs, but this issue is usually prevalent in tourism. I was told specifically what I would be making by my boss in my interview. My first paycheck states that I'm making 10 cents less. I let it go since it's my first paycheck. I email my boss about it and told him that he said I would be making 10 cents more. He said he'd look into it. Two weeks later, my paycheck says that same pay rate. I email my boss again. He calls back a day or so later telling me that he wrote the 10 cents less rate on my resume. I said, "But you told me I would be getting $x an hour." He said, "I checked back on your files and I wrote $x on your resume. I'll tell you what, if you do really well, I'll increase it." I said ok and let it go. It was a dumb excuse but what was I supposed to do? Demand to get paid 10 cents more or quit? I'd rather have a job right now than not.
A couple of nights ago, I had a cruise. My boss comes on the boat to check on things. We were all busy doing our pre-cruise setups. I was at the standing bar, thinking of what else I needed to do. He comes by and says, "I know you don't like me telling you, but you're not doing anything. You didn't make a nice display [of the liquor]. Be proactive, eh?" He's French. That pissed me off. (Not the French thing.) Not a good start to the cruise. He comes by a little later to test me on the procedures of punching in a host bar in the cash register. This time I gave him a little attitude. The third time, he came by to see what's going on with the wine glasses for the pre-pour. He asked where the rest of the wine glasses were. I said that it was on the bar. He said, "If you don't have any wine glasses, what do you say?" I didn't answer. He repeats, "What do you say?" I get flustered and tell him that I didn't know there was a pre-pour. I seriously didn't. What boss says "What do you say?" to their employees? It's what you say to a child so they learn their please and thank yous. I certainly am not a child, but my boss decides to treat me like one anyway. What the fuck.
After the cruise, he comes on to the boat to check on how it went with the cruise manager. Apparently, there were a few cash transactions. I swear I didn't touch that part of the register. He starts lecturing me. I say, "Ok." He says, "Don't say 'ok.' It's happened a lot and I won't tolerate it .. blah blah blah." A few things ran through my mind: "What do you want me to say? It's all my fault, please fire me?" and "I quit." Instead I say, "OK" with lots of attitude. He goes on for a little longer before I ignore him and just continue to close up my bar. In that mindset, I'm not sure there was anything I could say to make him know that I understand what he's been trying to say for the past three months. I'm not some fucking child that needs a lecture in front of their co-workers.
These things seem small but they really pissed me off. It's only been a month and a half of cruises and already work is starting to bug me. Not a good sign. Honestly, if this continues, I'd probably end up quitting. It's a good job, but if it comes down to it, I will do it.
