Sibling Hangouts
I'm not used to the quietness of my house yet. My brother has moved out for a week now and the basement doesn't have the rumblings of him shooting up things on his computer. I was excited when my brother came home today. Of course, he was the same old self but I don't see him everyday anymore.
He came over to get the rest of the stuff over to his new apartment - food, toilet paper, pop, odds and ends. Around 5 pm when we were putting the stuff into the car, there was this crazy wind that blew by and made my brother say, "Holy shit!" It looked like a snapshot of hurricane-like winds. That, it definitely was not. It was pretty scary though. Thunder, lightning and heavy rain followed. This crazy rainstorm did do some damage to a lot of trees and power lines in Toronto, so I scratched off going on the highway.
My brother needed to buy a bed for his new home. We went to IKEA for a bit looking for a particular foam mattress that would fit into his room. Queen is too big and Twin is too small. The North York IKEA did not have it. A let down. My brother will have to sleep on the floor cushioned by cushions from the couch for another few days until he could try the IKEA in Vaughan.
Then we headed to his place. Small Toronto streets are ghetto. There were certain areas of the street where people could park until 12 am otherwise they would need a permit from 12 am to 10 am. Across the street, on certain sections of the road, you weren't allowed to park at all. These sections alternated and it was frustrating. All the spots were taken too. I definitely do not parallel park well with other cars around so I went to a car park instead. Ghetto, I tell you, ghetto.
We went for a walk and my brother showed me around the area. The Yonge and Eglinton area has everything! Lots of boutique shops, restaurants, bars, an LCBO, two 24-hour Dominions within walking distance, three theatres, a used bookstore, and a mini mall. Not to mention, within a couple of blocks, there was a Country Style, Tim Horton's and Starbucks. You definitely can't go wrong with that. It's a busy area. Very much like downtown but more trendy and for yuppies. If I were to move to Toronto, I would love to live in a place like that.
My brother made tacos. It's been a couple of weeks since we had tacos together. It was our thing ... sort of? Anyway, an old friend of my brother's that I used to hate was visiting with his girlfriend. Roger was his name. He used to tease me a lot. He doesn't now, so it's all good. Also, Roger brought booze. Mostly, I just sat there and laughed at their stories, but it was still good times.
When Roger and his girlfriend left, I attempted to clean the dishes. It's hard with only one sink and very little space. Though, the rest of the apartment is very cozy and inviting. I like it. If I had the money, that would be the kind of apartment I would move in to.
What better way to end the night than to play Guitar Hero II for two hours? My brother's roommate and friend set up the Xbox 360 in the living room. I heard about this game and I've seen it but I've never played it until now. It was so weird playing a plastic guitar but funny 'cause we all kept messing up. We rocked the hell out.
