Belle de Jour
My latest time-waster is Belle de Jour. This came from watching the ITV2's show, The Secret Diary of a Call Girl. I hadn't heard of this Belle girl before, but she's very intriguing and I've just begun to read her blog from the beginning.
Belle de Jour was a high class London call girl, hooker, whore, prostitute - whatever you want to call her. She started a blog, sharing her exploits and adventures, all the while keeping her anonymity. To this day, her anonymity has caused English tabloids to throw up their arms in confusion and anger. She wrote two books based on her blog. Unlike many prostitutes who have drug addictions or rough family backgrounds, Belle came from a close-knit family and has finished her university degree. She fell in to the line of men for the money and the sex after many failed attempts at applying for a job in London to pay off her debts. She's intelligent, likes to read, and is very articulate in her writings. She recently quit answering calls to awaiting men and has found an office job in London.
Belle de Jour has caught my attention with her whorish ways. It's a temporary interest, until I find a new one, that is. One thing that bugs me is that Billie Piper seems a little off in her role on the television show. Maybe it's because I keep thinking of her first song, "Because We Want To." In any case, the show is edgy and different. I quite like it.
Belle de Jour, who are you?
