Cheung Chau

My family and I went to Cheung Chau yesterday. It's a small island just southwest of Hong Kong Island. It's a touristy place, offering lots of seafood and clean beaches. The only way to get to the island is by ferry, which takes about 45-60 minutes for an ordinary ferry. Just like the Toronto islands, there are no cars on this island. Lots and lots of bicycles, and lots of bicycles for rent. If you don't plan to ride a bike, that's ok; be sure to watch out for the many bicycle riders in front and behind you. I hadn't been to this island in a long time, and it changed a lot. A lot of things and places on the island are more accessible than it was 9 years ago. The Cheung Po Tsai cave is still there and the public can climb into it. The cave is allegedly where Cheung Po Tsai, the 19th century Chinese pirate, hid his treasure. It's a thrill to climb into the darkness, but beware of the tight fit. Cheung Chau is definitely worth it to come back, and definitely recommended as a day trip. Enjoy the pictures.

Today was a relaxing day. I mainly went looking for a new pair of running shoes for the upcoming China trip to the province of Yunnan. I'm not exactly sure where we're going, except for the city of Kunming, but all I know is that we'll be seeing a lot of mountainous rocks (stone forest), water, and mountains. And there'll be snow. Which is why I needed to buy a new pair of shoes, so my feet don't freeze. (I also bought a new bag, but I digress.) They told me something about going up a mountain to stay for a night and people getting sick from the altitude... Anyway, I'll be going this Sunday until next Friday. It's a long tour. It should be fun, I think. If I don't get sick.

Also, my mom and I are looking at going to Thailand or Guilin, China next. I really want to go somewhere other than China, like South Korea and Japan, but we'll see.
